Someone else's dream had moved into his head: roses, meltdown, fleece, curry.
The prime minister across the table from him wore a look of concern, while The Three At His Back chuckled and then guffawed, and he knew that if Lyric didn't call soon, he'd be dead.
"Look," said the Three At His Back, "if you're not going to give us the almanac, I don't see much point in continuing to negotiate."

Yet another post. Enjoy.

We are living in a calligraphy world that will ensnare us for months. The careful cursive of bare tree limbs reach out to me, brush my face, consume me. I feel a sinking in my heart when I think of the cold months ahead of us.

A bruise is a rupture beneath the skin; the destruction of tiny capillaries that take the beating of the heart to the far parts of the body. A bruise is destruction. The blood spreads under my skin and I would rather it release in torrents than stay stubbornly under my skin.

On the train back from the airport, potted plant in hand, she wondered how he would have reacted to the daisies she was planning to give, if only he had shown up. At least it was an airport, so when she was crying as she walked away, it only seemed like someone had left her, rather than someone standing her up. And in a sense, he had left her, she just hadn't realized until now.

He looked for Jake all night, scouring the crowds with worried eyes that never stopped moving. Aaron shouldered in and out of the human tides, looking for the shaggy blond head, but never seeing the right one.
And then he saw Jake, holding up a lone finger, and a wrist empty of the bracelet that said, "I love you."

"Tonight she is Veronica Lake. Her nails have been filled and I believe tonight’s special is a whiskey sour. She looks like a Raymond Chandler story without the fedora hat. Regarding her pearls between two fingernails, she rubs the back of her neck in manner that is slightly masculine."

The Nightengale's Song [Sep. 30th, 2005|10:03 pm]
Brilliant Brevity
kosmokalos
The nightengale so loves the sun
it sits in silence softly sighing
and whiles away the pious day.
But when Apollo shuts his eye
and turns his face to West'ring lands
to cool his steeds in Ocean's streams
and mingle salty sweat with sea,
how then and then and twice again
the warbler cries its shrill lament.
The moon alone, the night-haired moon
forgets her bow and painless arrows
adrift among the distant stars,
far distant stars beyond the sky,
and listens to the nightengale,
recalling young Endymion
who sleeps on earth so sweet and deep
a sleep most like to quiet death.

Doors to nowhere, keys that lead to no door, words without a meaning. Have you ever met an earless man who collected studs, a mute with a microphone; a tea cosy for a house that couldn’t afford a kettle? I want to live where there’s black and white, no blues.

I feel her with a hand, an arm, an eyebrow. I fuck her with a wink, a shiver, an elbow. I reel her towards me and I swallow without water.

The next few weeks went on uneventfully. The two chose to stay in opposite ends of the castle, and when they did see each other, it was only in brief, silent glances from across the courtyard. Once or twice, Kanjirou caught sight of her running from one palace to another, and he thought he saw her face turn just as she was passing behind the door--that, in her unconscious recognition, she smiled--but the image fell away and all he could find to replace it was the prim little ball of hair pinned up neatly on the back of her head, and the white robe as it slipped quietly inside.
